ROK institute pushes to jump-start research on North Korea’s rare earth reserves(NKNEWS, 5.29)

Han Ki-ho, a professor at the Ajou Institute for Unification, told NK News that Pyongyang is unlikely to grant access to South Korean research institutions.

"It would amount to leaking internal data to a hostile state," he said.

DPRK leader Kim Jong Un repudiated reunification in late 2023 and declared the South to be a separate "hostile state."

But if inter-Korean cooperation is realized and the supply of North Korea's resources is confirmed, it could benefit the South's key industries such as battery, automotive, shipbuilding and construction, Han said.
